A park, two wheels and a little boy

Tuesday, January 26th 2010 @ 2:07 PM (not yet rated)    post viewed 192 times

ABC News recently reported on "one young boy on a mission."  Charlie Simpson, a seven-year-old boy from London, set his mind to raise funds for disaster relief in Haiti.  Not only did he meet his goal, he exceeded it by over $150,000!

You see, Charlie liked riding his bike, so he figured he would do what he liked in order to help someone else - he organized a charity bike ride.  He expected to raise "about 500 pounds," or approximately $800 US dollars for his efforts.  He literally rode around the park in circles for five miles, and raised over $160,000.

Now, you may say, "Well, he is a cute little boy so people gave."  You may say, "Well, his results aren't typical" (you know, kind of like every weight loss ad you see on tv Laughing).  The truth is, his results were not typical, but neither was his effort.  How many neighborhood children ride their bikes every day and never thought to organize a fund raiser?  How many people actually know how to organize an effort of any size, but did nothing?  Charlie simply did what he loved to do and took it to the next level - helping someone else.

What do you do well?  What do others say that you inspire them with?  What do you love to do?  How can you take that and transform it into an act of service to others?  On that day, $160,000 was raised due to the effective use of "a park, two wheels and a little boy."
